SMS Text Notifications

SMS text notifications help you keep customers informed about appointments and invoices through automated text messages. As a result, you can reduce no-shows, improve payment timing, and maintain clear, timely communication without manual follow-ups.

If you also rely on email alerts, you can manage those separately in Email Notifications.

Requirements

SMS notifications are available on all paid plans. If your workspace is on a free trial, you will need to upgrade to a paid plan before SMS can be used. Once you are on a paid plan, SMS is ready to go with no additional setup required.

Configure Notification Channels

You control exactly which notifications are sent via SMS. Each notification type has its own Email and SMS checkboxes, so you can mix and match delivery channels however you like.

To configure your channels:

  1. Navigate to Settings
  2. Select Notifications
  3. Click the Customer tab
  4. Expand the section for the notification type you want to configure (Appointments, Invoices, or Subscriptions)
  5. Check or uncheck Email and SMS for each notification
  6. Click Save

Your monthly SMS usage and limit are displayed at the top of the Customer Notifications page so you can monitor activity at any time.

Unchecking both Email and SMS for a notification type will disable that notification entirely.

Enable SMS Notifications for Individual Customers

In addition to workspace settings, each customer must have SMS consent enabled on their profile. Otherwise, BlueSuite will not send text messages to that customer, even if SMS is checked for a notification type.

To enable SMS notifications for a customer:

  1. Open the customer’s contact profile
  2. Enter a valid phone number
  3. Enable SMS Notifications
  4. Save the profile

BlueSuite sends SMS notifications only to customers who have both a phone number and SMS consent enabled on their profile.

If you need help adding or updating customer contact information, review the Creating and Managing Contacts guide.

FCC Compliance and Customer Consent (Required)

SMS text messaging falls under regulations enforced by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). Therefore, you must obtain explicit consent from your customers before sending SMS notifications.

What This Means for Your Business

By enabling SMS notifications and sending messages through BlueSuite, you confirm that you obtained proper consent and that you comply with FCC and TCPA requirements. Consequently, you assume full responsibility for lawful SMS usage.

BlueSuite only provides the communication platform and does not assume liability for unauthorized or improper SMS messaging.

Best Practices for Obtaining SMS Consent

Although BlueSuite does not enforce how you collect consent, many businesses use the following methods:

If you remain unsure whether your consent process meets FCC requirements, consult a legal professional before enabling SMS notifications.
